Quick answer: Gathering is usually a task inside a larger event, not one fixed event with one fixed leaderboard. Open the live event's task list first. Then use the matching Rare hero, send as many marches as your other activities allow, and gather the resource that fits both the scoring ratio and your next upgrade.
Kingshot rewards wilderness gathering in several places. Early kingdoms may see it in Hall of Governors, while older kingdoms can see it in Strongest Governor and smaller events such as Steel Edge or Call of the Sovereign. The stage, point values, milestones, and rankings are not identical.
That distinction matters. A generic promise like “gathering events happen two to four times per month” is not useful planning. Your event screen is the source of truth for what scores today.
Check the Scoring Ratio Before You Gather
Many competitive gathering stages normalize the four resources around their economic value. A commonly used ratio is:
| Equal scoring unit | Bread | Wood | Stone | Iron |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Resource amount | 50 | 50 | 10 | 2 |
For example, a Hall of Governors gathering stage can award the same points for 50 Bread, 50 Wood, 10 Stone, or 2 Iron. Steel Edge uses larger amounts but preserves the same 25:25:5:1 relationship.
Do not assume every task normalizes resources. Some simple objectives count the raw amount gathered instead. In those tasks, Bread or Wood can fill the target faster because one tile contains a much larger displayed quantity. Read the wording and point table before committing every march.
What Actually Counts
- Wilderness gathering means resources collected from map tiles.
- Town production is not a substitute when the task specifically says to gather in the Wilderness.
- Event versions can change with kingdom age and live balance updates.
- Milestone rewards are usually the efficient target. Ranking is optional and depends on the current bracket.
The Four Gathering Heroes
Kingshot has one Rare hero for each wilderness resource. Their gathering skill rises from +5% at level 1 to +25% at level 5.
| Hero | Resource | Wilderness skill | Bonus at level 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Olive | Bread | Forager's Luck | +25% |
| Forrest | Wood | Master Woodcutter | +25% |
| Edwin | Stone | Stone Mining | +25% |
| Seth | Iron | Craftsmanship | +25% |
Each of these heroes has one Expedition skill for town production and another for wilderness gathering. For event marches, upgrade the skill that explicitly says Gathering Speed in the Wilderness. The hero must travel with the march for that bonus to apply.
The game can auto-select an appropriate hero, but check the formation before sending. Olive on a Wood tile does not provide Forrest's Wood gathering bonus.
Combat heroes are not a gathering-speed substitute. If tile attacks are allowed and you deliberately want a defensive bait march, that is a PvP decision—not the normal event-efficiency setup.
Tile Level: Capacity, Not Magic
A higher-level tile contains more resources. It does not create event points from nothing, and a long tile is not automatically better per hour than several smaller tiles. The advantage is lower maintenance: fewer returns, fewer searches, and less idle time between trips.
Active Play
Choose nearby tiles your march can fully clear. Short travel time and immediate resends matter more than chasing a distant tile just because its level is higher.
Keep one queue free if you still need Intel missions, Terror rallies, or alliance activities. Five idle gathering marches are worse than four gathering marches plus the activity that completes your daily rewards.
Practical rule: use the highest nearby full tile that matches your login schedule. Do not leave tiny tile fragments unless you have to; they clutter the map and are poor targets for the next gatherer.
Where Gathering Speed Comes From
- The matching Rare hero's wilderness skill
- Economy research for Bread, Wood, Stone, and Iron gathering
- Alliance technology and territory bonuses shown in your active stats
- Island bonuses you have actually unlocked
- A timed Gathering Speed Boost from City Bonuses
Open your Governor bonuses to see the total currently applied. Additive bonuses do not reduce the displayed timer by the same percentage. For example, adding another 20% to an account that already has substantial gathering speed will not make the trip finish 20% sooner.
There is no normal “gathering hero equipment set” to swap between marches. Hero gear is combat gear; it is not a hidden wilderness gathering system. Spend research and Rare Expedition skill books where the game explicitly lists a gathering bonus.
When to Use a Gathering Boost
Use a timed boost when all three are true:
- The current event actually scores wilderness gathering.
- You can keep several marches gathering for much of the boost window.
- The extra milestone or ranking value is worth the item or gem cost.
Activate it before the marches begin gathering. If your marches are already travelling, you can still apply the boost before they reach their tiles.
Choosing Bread, Wood, Stone, or Iron
The old advice to “always gather Bread and Wood because they are faster” is incomplete. In normalized scoring stages, all four resources can be equivalent after applying the event ratio.
Use this priority instead:
- Follow the live task wording. Raw-resource objectives favor the large displayed quantities on Bread and Wood tiles.
- Fix your account bottleneck. Construction, research, troop training, and healing consume different mixes over time.
- Keep a balanced stockpile. A useful planning ratio is roughly 20 Bread : 20 Wood : 4 Stone : 1 Iron.
- Use the hero you have developed. A maxed resource-specific skill can outweigh a small difference in march distance.
A balanced ratio does not mean sending one march to every resource forever. It is a checkpoint. Compare your current secured and non-secured totals with the cost of your next major upgrades, then gather the shortfall.
Event-Day March Plan
Before the Stage
- Check the event calendar and live task list.
- Heal enough troops to fill your gathering marches.
- Save a gathering boost if you intend to push.
- Confirm local rules for tile attacks during All-Out or KvK.
- Move closer to useful tiles only if the teleport is worth the saved march time.
During the Stage
- Match Olive, Forrest, Edwin, and Seth to their resources.
- Send every march you can spare without blocking higher-value daily activities.
- Use full tiles that fit your next login window.
- Resend returned marches promptly.
- Stop at your planned milestone unless the next reward or ranking bracket is genuinely worth the effort.
Ranking Reality
There is no universal “check every 30 minutes for top 100” formula. Tile size, bonuses, available queues, kingdom activity, and the event's other scoring tasks all change the leaderboard. Use the ranking screen to estimate the moving cutoff instead of relying on a fixed activity-to-rank table.
Gathering Safety and Resource Protection
Ordinary resource tiles are attackable. Alliance territory is not automatically a safe zone; kingdom NAP rules determine whether other players are expected to leave those tiles alone. During All-Out, many kingdoms explicitly allow tile hits.
- Recall immediately if you see an incoming tile attack you do not want to fight.
- A city shield protects your city, not an exposed march on a normal resource tile.
- Keep the Infirmary clear during tile-combat windows so wounded troops have room.
- Do not assume a strong combat hero makes an unattended gathering march safe from a whale.
Resources returned from wilderness gathering are non-secured. The Storehouse protects part of that amount; excess can be plundered from your city. Resources still packaged as items in your backpack cannot be looted, but gathered resources do not turn back into chests.
For the full secured-resource and shield breakdown, use the Resource Protection Guide.
Common Mistakes
- Treating every gathering objective as the same event
- Ignoring the live Bread/Wood/Stone/Iron scoring ratio
- Sending the wrong Rare hero for the tile
- Upgrading town-output skills when the goal is wilderness speed
- Assuming higher-level tiles inherently gather faster per resource
- Filling every queue and then missing Intel or alliance rallies
- Buying a boost without enough active marches to use it
- Believing alliance territory or a city shield protects normal gathering tiles
- Leaving newly gathered, non-secured resources exposed during PvP windows
Bottom Line
Gathering events are efficient because they convert normal account maintenance into rewards. The winning routine is simple: verify the live scoring rule, use the correct Rare hero, keep practical marches working, and gather what your account actually needs.
Do not chase invented rank guarantees or universal tile rules. Kingshot changes event formats; the current event screen always wins.
