Mithril Guide: Red Gear Costs, Sources & Spending Priority

Kingshot Mithril deep dive. When Mithril unlocks, why it matters for Red Gear, the best sources, and when to buy it over other shop items.

Quick Summary: Mithril is a late-game Red Gear bottleneck. It matters once a hero gear piece has been converted to Red and starts hitting Mithril checkpoints past Level 100. Before that threshold, Mithril is a stockpile item, not an immediate power gain.

Mithril has one of the highest ceilings in Kingshot's gear economy, but it is not an early-game crafting material. Forge Hammers upgrade Mythic gear. Mithril gates Red Gear progression after the Red conversion point, especially the Level 120, 140, 160, 180, and 200 checkpoints. If you still need the piece order before spending Mithril, start with the Hero Gear priority and Red Gear path.

What Is Mithril Used For?

Mithril serves one main purpose:

UseDescriptionPriority
Red Gear checkpointsUnlock level milestones after a Mythic piece is converted to Red★★★★★ Primary use

That means Mithril is priority #1 only for accounts already at Red Gear progression. If you do not have Mythic gear at Level 100 with Mastery Forging 10 and the Red Gear conversion path available, Mithril is a long-term stockpile rather than a short-term upgrade.

Never spend Mithril on Mastery Reforge. Reforging returns only 50-60% of materials. Always use Enhancement (200 gems, 100% transfer) instead. See our Gear Enhancement Guide for details.

Every Mithril Source Ranked

Not all Mithril sources are equal. Here's every source ranked by efficiency and accessibility:

RankSourceNotesPriority
1Trial / Mystic Trial ShopMain recurring free source once Mithril matters★★★★★ Red Gear accounts
2Event shopsBuy when the event price is efficient and Red Gear is relevant★★★★★ Situational
3KvK and Strongest Governor rewardsLarge but periodic batches★★★★☆ Competitive
4Alliance Shop / rotating storesUseful when available, but competes with other bottlenecks★★★☆☆ Account-dependent
5Premium packsDirect source for spenders★★★☆☆ Budget-dependent
6Chest-style rewardsVariable and unreliable★★☆☆☆ Bonus only

Mithril Planning Target

How to think about Mithril by account stage:

Account StageMithril PlanBetter Immediate Buys
Before Mythic Level 100Stockpile only when the price is goodMythic gear chests, Forgehammers, hero shards, Truegold
Approaching Red GearStart saving deliberatelyForgehammers and gear pieces that reach the threshold
Red Gear activeTreat Mithril as a top bottleneckOnly TG Dust may outrank it in the Trial Shop
Deep Red progressionPlan checkpoint-by-checkpointRanking/event timing may matter more than raw stockpile

The exact Mithril income varies by kingdom age, event participation, and shop access. Track your own intake once Red Gear is close enough for the number to matter.

Red Gear Mithril Costs

Mithril starts mattering after a Mythic gear piece becomes Red. From there, Red gear upgrades toward Level 200 and hits Mithril checkpoints every 20 levels.

Red Gear StageMithril RolePriority
Before Red conversionStockpile onlyLow immediate value
Level 100 → 120First Mithril checkpointHighest practical value
Level 120 → 140Next checkpointHigh
Level 140 → 160Larger late-game pushHigh for rally leads
Level 160 → 180Deep Red progressionWhale / competitive
Level 180 → 200Final stretchEndgame

The full Level 100 → 200 path is roughly 150 Mithril per piece. Check the exact checkpoint costs in your in-game Red Gear screen before committing.

Threshold check: Do not treat Mithril as an urgent buy until your account can actually use it. The practical unlock point is Mythic gear at Level 100, Mastery Forging 10, the Red Gear conversion path, and then the Mithril-gated checkpoints after conversion.

Mithril Spending Priority

Where you spend Mithril matters more than how much you earn. Spend it only on priority Red Gear pieces:

PriorityWhat to PushWhyROI
#1Infantry Gloves / core Infantry pieceBest survivability return for most formations★★★★★
#2Archer Helmet / core Archer pieceStrong backline damage value after Infantry anchor★★★★☆
#3Cavalry Helmet / core Cavalry pieceUseful, but usually after Infantry and Archer★★★☆☆
#4Secondary march Red piecesOnly after your main march has meaningful checkpoints★★☆☆☆
#5Tertiary gear piecesLuxury spending unless you are competing at the top end★☆☆☆☆

Why Infantry Gear First?

The reasoning mirrors the Truegold Infantry-first strategy:

  • Infantry is 50%+ of every formation
  • Infantry gear provides Health and Defense — survival stats
  • Longer infantry survival = more total damage from your archers
  • A single priority Red checkpoint usually beats spreading Mithril across low-impact pieces

For the full mathematical breakdown of Infantry-first strategy, see our Truegold Guide.

Mithril vs Forge Hammers: Understanding Both

Players often confuse Mithril and Forge Hammers. They're complementary but serve different purposes:

MithrilForge Hammers
Primary UseUnlock Red Gear level checkpointsUpgrade Mythic gear and Mastery levels
Best SourceTrial/Event shops once relevantBear Hunt and recurring events
F2P Bottleneck?Yes, but only after Red Gear startsYes, much earlier than Mithril
AffectsHow far Red gear can progress past Level 100Whether Mythic gear reaches the Red conversion threshold
PriorityLate-game checkpoint materialEarly-to-late gear upgrade material

The right order: Build and level Mythic gear with Forgehammers → reach Level 100 and Mastery Forging 10 on priority pieces → convert to Red → spend Mithril at Red Gear checkpoints.

Mystic Trial Shop: Mithril vs Other Items

The Mystic Trial Shop is your best Mithril source, but it competes with other valuable items. For the full shop-by-shop buy order, including Trial Shop, Arena Shop, Alliance Shop, Mystery Shop, VIP Shop, and event shops like Adventure Stall, see the Kingshot Shop Guide.

The current rule is simple: TG Dust first once it appears, then Mithril when Red Gear progression is relevant. Before TG Dust appears, Mithril is worth stockpiling only if your account is approaching or already using Red Gear checkpoints. If you are still far from Red Gear, do not treat Mithril as more urgent than Truegold, active hero shards, or the materials that move your account today.

ItemMisty Crystal CostPriorityReasoning
TG DustWeekly cap when available★★★★★ First once unlockedWar Academy and T11 research bottleneck
MithrilHigh value per crystal★★★★★ Red Gear accounts; stockpile otherwiseRed Gear checkpoint material
Development TP ComponentsPer component★★★★☆ Buy After MithrilImportant but slower ROI
Mythic Hero ShardsPer shard★★★☆☆ SelectiveOnly for heroes you're actively building
Lucky Hero Equipment ChestsPer chest★★☆☆☆ SkipRNG-based, inconsistent value
Truegold OrePer ore unit★★★☆☆ SituationalOnly if Ore-bottlenecked
Charm MaterialsPer material★★☆☆☆ SkipBetter sourced from Alliance Shop

Rule of thumb: If TG Dust is available, buy it first. If Mithril is usable for your Red Gear path, buy it next. If Mithril is still months away from mattering, stockpile selectively and prioritize the resources that advance your current account stage.

F2P Mithril Milestones

Track your progress against these benchmarks to gauge if you're on track:

StageMilestoneMithril Action
Early gearBuilding Epic/Legendary/Mythic setsDo not prioritize Mithril over active gear or hero growth
Mythic gearLeveling priority pieces with ForgehammersStart tracking Mithril, but Forgehammers still drive the threshold
Red conversion prepMythic Level 100 + Mastery Forging 10Begin treating Mithril as a top-tier bottleneck
Red Gear activeLevel 120/140/160/180/200 checkpointsSpend Mithril only on priority pieces
Deep endgameMultiple Red piecesBudget carefully; each extra piece multiplies the Mithril demand

Remember: Mithril is powerful because it unlocks Red Gear progress, not because it gives early account power. If you cannot use it yet, stockpiling is fine, but do not rate it above resources that move your account today.

What to Remember

  1. Mithril is late-game — it becomes top priority when Red Gear checkpoints matter, not before
  2. Never use Mastery Reforge — Enhancement (200 gems) transfers 100% of materials vs 50-60% (Enhancement Guide)
  3. Prioritize core Red pieces first — main-march Infantry and Archer checkpoints usually beat spreading Mithril around
  4. TG Dust can still beat Mithril in the Trial Shop — once War Academy Dust appears, follow the Shop Guide
  5. Forgehammers come online earlier — they help you reach the Red Gear threshold Mithril depends on
  6. If you cannot use Mithril yet, treat it as a stockpile — valuable later, but not immediate power

For long-term account progression, we strongly recommend reading our Master Academy Guide to unlock Pan and Valora's passive rewards.
