Despite being yet another defensive widget infantry hero (adding Defense stats to Garrisons), there is a lot to like about Diego, especially compared to the previous infantry generations. This is great news for free-to-play players as well, since he is on the Hero Roulette wheel this generation. To start, his "Defensive Guidance" ability is a fantastic joiner ability. It's a 15% Defense up and 10% Health up ability, basically the inverse of Saul's joiner ability. These split skills tend to make some of the best joiner skills in the game, and they are also helpful in solo marches as well given the multiplicative relationship of the two skill code components create an effective value greater than the usual 25% benchmark. This is followed by two further skills that both have 25% effective values: Piercing Aura (50% chance of 50% damage up) and Cold Frost (25% Lethality up). This makes him the first infantry hero since arguably Zoe with all three Expedition skills having an effective value of 25%. Given that two of his skills are offensive in nature, we expect that this will lead to him getting higher Bear Hunt damage contributions than either Alcar or Zoe (although he will still fall

Diego the swordmaster is an expert in the "sword-shield" technique, a physical barrier with protection equal to Attack * 380%. The shield suffers damage before he does and lasts for 5s.

Blade Soul

Diego's reputation on the battlefield precedes him, particularly amongst enemy heroes with the effect of reducing their Attack by 5% while increasing his own (by 5% * number of intimidated heroes) for 3s.

Shadow Flicker

A swordmaster knows how an enemy is going to act even before they do. Diego has a 15% chance of dodging normal attacks with a 20% chance of dealing a critical with his own attacks.

A good offense is a good defense. Diego increases total Squad's Defense by 15% and total Health by 10%.

Piercing Aura

Diego's pride in his craft is easily shared, granting Squad's Attack a 50% chance of dealing 50% extra damage.

Cold Frost

Even rank-and-file enemies cower in the face of Diego's awesome reputation, increasing total Squad's Lethality by 25%.
